Pre-Screen, Interview and Evaluate Staff

This essential process helps you to make wise choices

regarding your staffing candidates.  Don't rely on just an

attractive resume,  a nice personality,  or trial and error as

the determining factors in hiring the best massage

therapists and auxiliary staff.  Make sure they possess the

actual "hands-on" skills to deliver the treatment and

services your clients and patients expect from a true

professional, whether it is in the medical or hospitality arena.

Hands-On Management can step in at any phase of your

hiring process.  We can help recruit and generate a qualified

pool of applicants.  We can pre-screen resumes, conduct

phone interviews, and coordinate and perform in-person

interviews to refine your options.

“Hands-on” service evaluations and assessments can include traditional table and chair massage and other soft-tissue or bodywork techniques such as: Swedish, NeuroMuscular, Myofascial Release, CranioSacral, Reflexology, Hot Stone, Scrubs and Wraps.  Other assessment concerns include:  HIPPA Compliance, Documentation and Charting Proficiencies, Communication Skills, Draping, Room Comfort and Customer Service.

These evaluations can be conducted though direct interviews and evaluations.  Or you can use the highly valued “Mystery Shopper” services.  Utilize this service to establish and maintain on-going customer satisfaction and compliance evaluation programs.  The anonymous evaluator gathers valuable information, from the client’s or patient's perspective.  Mystery shopping is also a great way to monitor billing and sales integrity of the staff, in addition to the service quality and customer satisfaction.

Professional Verifications & Credentialing

This critical function helps to make sure, that from an administrative perspective, your ducks are in a row.  Make

sure you and your staff are compliant and / or current with

State and Local Professional and Occupational Licensing, NPI, Certifications, CEU’s, Education, and Liability & Malpractice Insurance.

Hand-On Management can help direct you through the sometimes complicated Florida Massage Establishment

License process.  We can assist you or interface on your

behalf with agencies.

Having legitimate, credentialed staff is critical to establishing your professional reputation.  Whether you maintain a

medical office, serve the hospitality clientele, work with

athletes or provide on-site corporate chair massage, your

compliance to legal and industry standards is vital for your

success, your client’s confidence and the profession’s

integrity.

Having lapsed licensing or insurance or code violations can be paralyzing and costly for your business.  The State of
Florida closely regulates Massage.  Make sure you, your staff, or your facility are in compliance.

Training, Billing and Disability Sesinsitivity

Training is an essential for your organization’s success.  Hands-On Management can provide industry-specific training for your clinical, administrative and billing staff.

Make sure your billing department is fully familiar with the CPT® and ICD9 coding and the Florida Statutes that govern the inclusion of massage for certain PIP, Health Insurance policies and HMO’s.  In many cases, Massage is not billed in the exact same way as other services, particularly if performed by a Licensed Massage Therapist.  How a prescription is written can dictate how a claim is administered.  It could even determine whether services are completely covered, or not covered at all.

How you authorize, submit, and appeal on massage claims will directly dictate your level of profitability in offering medical massage.  This applies to large organizations as well as to the independent therapist.  Don’t assume that because you have a large or established medical practice that this is easily accommodated.  Each insurance company administers massage claims in a different manner, sometimes even varying by the individual policy terms rather than by a corporate or industry standard.

Out-sourcing your billing is another option.  Let Hands-On Management make sure your company is familiar with the industry specifics and is willing to accommodate massage billing in their services.  Many of the companies are not prepared and will deny the extra steps that may be involved in maximizing your medical massage profits.  If you are in the market to out-source or establish in-house billing, let Hands-On Management help you minimize the start-up or transition.

Training can also maximize how your non-therapist staff views and promotes massage.  Many people have a misconception or lack of knowledge regarding the therapeutic benefits of Massage and Corrective Soft Tissue Therapies.  Make sure your staff knows the benefits and how to convey them to your clients and/or patients.  Let Hands-On Management help you make sure the most up-to-date medical and research-based information is available in addition to commercially popular and media friendly stats.

Accommodating individuals with disabilities is vital.  Are you familiar

with the Americans with Disabilities Act and how it applies to your

business?  Does your staff need Disability Sensitivity and Awareness Training?

Marketing, Competitive Intelligence and Facility Set-up

So, you have great therapists and offer excellent services.
Making sure the public is aware of what you offer makes it
valuable, but only if they choose you.  The State of
Florida even
dictates specifics about how massage can be advertised.  Let Hands-On Management help establish or refine your Marketing and Advertising programs.  Make sure print, media and on-line exposure are

maximized.

Make sure you have competitive services and price lists.  Does your establishment offer the services that your clients/patients want and/or need?  Let Hand-On Management help you refine or expand your

offerings.  Stay up-to-date on the latest techniques and industry trends.

Develop an active Competitive Intelligence Plan.  Keep abreast of your competition.  Use primary and secondary research as well as indirect assessments including the Mystery Shopping Program.

Use Massage for charitable events and community outreach.  Public Relations is key in establishing a professional reputation.  But make

sure your staff is qualified, professional and ethical in representing

you off-site.

Let Hands-On Management assist you in all phases of your project.  We can facilitate a comprehensive marketing analysis, feasibility study,

business plan development, site plan, facility layout and design, and

service menu and pricing strategies.   We can work with your architect,

contractors, vendors and management from concept development,

through start-up and as an on-going support.

Make sure you are using the highest quality products including

oils, lotions, linens and equipment.  Always consider alternatives for

allergy suffers or others with medical or personal conditions.  Don’t

forget to stock the items you intend to offer for sale.  Ensure that your treatment staff has adequate training or knowledge about the products

they use.  In addition, non-therapist staff should be trained to educate clients and promote product sales.
